Springtime in Galicia — Sort of . . ..

We are in Galicia, Spain, now. We arrived two weeks ago today, and for the most part, this is what springtime in Galicia has looked like this year. Still, no matter how cloudy and rainy, it's always beautiful. We've had rain every single day, but also we've had sprinkles of sunshine every single day. It's always that way in Galicia, although this year in April there has been more rain than sunshine. It does give a different aspect to things. I find that stormy days suggests story.

Take this picture of the Parador, which is one of my favorite buildings in Monforte de Lemos,        where we now are renting an apartment while we have put our Trasulfe house up for sale.

Doesn't this suggest a somber novel to you?

Speaking of novels, one reason I haven't been posting is that I am hard at work on a new novel, a mystery novel, that requires a lot of research. I'm enjoying it a lot and feeling pangs of guilt for my lack of sociability on line. Nonetheless, my imaginary friends are calling, and I can't let them down. In a future post I will tell a little more about the Parador.

Meanwhile, spring really is coming to this beautiful area. Here is proof:

How about you? Does your writing interfere with your social life? Or is it vice versa?

  1. Always enjoy your glimpses into life in Spain, thanks for the pictures! And good luck on the new novel. Maybe you'll get great inspiration at the Parador :-)

  2. Spring is frequently flirtacious. She pokes her head into the room, smiles, and backs out again.
It is odd that such a welcome visitor is shy.
Enjoy your time in Galicia and happy researching and writing.

  3. Loved your comment, EC. I would say spring has been downright bashful this year. Thanks for the good wishes re the writing.

  4. Kenda, I really do feel inspired by the Parador. It will have to wait for a later story, but I am pretty sure I am going to work it into one. I'm glad you enjoy the pictures. I hope your poetry is going well for the April challenge.

  6. Rosi, I love rain, too. Although, I love a rain that doesn't include cold winds. A cold windy rain I find really difficult. But generally I like to walk in rain and see what the rain does to all the trees and flowers. Somehow, they all look so much fresher and their colors livelier after a good rain.

  8. Hi, Mark. Yes, we feel blessed that we can do this. When we were younger, we never expected to travel to Spain. Or anywhere, really. It's been a really big deal in our lives.

  10. Hi, Jess. Yup. The mix continues, too. We had two beautiful days for the Medieval Festival over the Easter week-end (which I will post about later this week), and then yesterday was a mix, and this morning started out sunny and it's now raining. But that's Galicia. Strangely, we are so used to it, it wouldn't seem like Galicia if there wasn't at least a little sprinkle sometime during the day.

  11. I find that writing interferes with everything! If one is to do it well, it requires so much concentration on the imagined world that the real world clips away. One year I suddenly realized that I'd missed April entirely. And that is a shame.

Glad to see that you are enjoying your April in Galicia!

  12. I really appreciated your view, Vicki. Once I get going on a WIP, I'm the worst company in the world at dinner, because I'm thinking of, you know, "them" and what they are doing. Once, when my husband was on a business trip, I forgot to eat dinner! It's amazing that you missed a whole month, though.
