Another Long Silence Because I'm Writing

Well, actually not writing, but re-writing a collection of poems I wrote about Galicia. (Although, "rewriting" can sometimes feel like writing. Some poems have been entirely revamped. Picture me at this desk, huddled over my computer, deciding on words, then redeciding.)

I want to finish it sometime next week. There are forty poems altogether, and I have five left. My Storytellers Writing Group has valiantly critiqued many of the rewrites, after they and two poetry groups I attended before Covid-19 had critiqued them the first time around. At times like this shut-in period, one truly appreciates the Internet.

So, I really don't have a lot to say right now until I finish this project. I've tons of pictures taken in my walks around town that are out of season, now, since the last ones were taken in October and early November. Still, when I finish the collection, I'll post them anyway—beautiful murals on public buildings (another of Sacramento's beautification projects, this one called "Wide Open Walls.")

That will have to be in my next post. And that will be in a couple of weeks.  Till then, wish me luck on finding the right place to send this collection. My husband and I both love and miss Galicia, Spain, as well as Braga, Portugal, and these poems are from the heart.

If you are a writer or artist or love to garden or scrapbook, I hope your own endeavors are going well. And if you are a reader, I hope you have been enjoying some wonderful reads. (I have.) Whatever you love to do, I hope you are able to do it during these Covid times.

Take care, and stay safe and well. There will be light at the end of this tunnel.

  2. More poetry, good for you :-) It's great to know you are still writing and polishing up your collection. I've thought of you and wondered about your travels. How you must miss Spain! We had hoped to go to there last May ourselves but had to cancel our plans, too. But like you say, there will be light at the end of this tunnel. Until then, we keep writing, right? Take care and continue to enjoy those things you love.

  3. It was so nice to read you are doing well, especially since you have been silent for awhile. These are truly trying times and I agree the internet has been a lifesaver. I'm sure you WILL find the "write" place to send your poems. They will be appreciated by many of us once they have been published.

  4. Hi, Donna. Oh, I wish I had known when you were in Sacramento. We've been here in the area 35 years and in Midtown for @ 25 years. It would have been nice to meet you in person. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving and that the writing goes well.

  5. Good Morning, Kenda. You are so right. We really do miss Spain. And we miss Braga, Portugal, which is about a 2&1/2 hour from our area in Galicia, so we've been going there, too, for the last 6 years. Luckily, we have friends in both places to look forward to seeing again when things open up again. I'm cheering for your own trip to Spain when you can travel again. I think you said you have a granddaughter there. Best wishes.

  6. Hi, Elizabeth (and Bleubeard, who is such a beautiful cat). I appreciate the supportive comments re: reading my poetry if it gets published. (If it does, I will announce it for sure! :-) I hope all is going well with you and yours. Take care. The other Elizabeth. :-)

  9. Hi, Rosi, I know the feeling so well. I think I've been stuck like that for about 6 months. And I've had longer periods before. In this case, one reason I decided to finish the poetry collection is that the poems were alread written and critiqued, some more than once. So I had something to work on. I've mainly been rewriting. I can't thank you enough for how helpful you have been during this rewrite period. Meanwhile, I think your book reviews have been keeping your writing up to snuff. Any kind of writing is a good idea.

  10. Good afternoon, Natalie. Thanks for stopping by. And thanks for the good wishes. Now that I've gotten back to the poems and two blog posts, I'm kinda revved up to be more regular, so the chances are good i will post again before several months slip by as before, Lol. All good wishes for your own ventures.

  12. Thanks, Mirka. I finished revising the last poem yesterday and now am just waiting for feedback from my writing buddies. Today I will put the poems in order. It feels so good to have gotten to this point. Hope your own writing is going well and that you and yours are safe and well from this virus.

  13. Wishing you luck on the purrfect home for your poems--not that you'll need it.
    Have you settled in?
    Take special care.

  14. Good morning, Sandra. Thanks for the good wishes. I'm not submitting it yet. A poet friend is reading through the poems for their organization and sequence, etc., to see if they flow into each other. After that, yes, I will be looking for a good "home" for them. Have a terrific day. I always look forward to seeing your photos. They are real spirit boosters.
