The June Art Show and Reception at Art Ellis

Families looking in the window
As promised, I am bringing my after school Art Club's June Art Exhibit to you by way of this post. Saturday, June 1st was the reception, and the exhibit showcases work by students, ages 8 to 12. For those of you who live in the Sacramento area, the art will be on display at Art Ellis for the whole month of June. Art Ellis is an art supplies store at 2508 J Street in Sacramento's bustling Midtown. It's owned by Sharon and Jim Tanovitz who have kindly supported our art exhibits for many years.

Enjoy the 15 pieces of art, and, since art is subjective, I'll be interested to know which pieces caught your fancy and why. After the 15 art pieces, I have pictures of the reception. A happy time for all.

  2. Hi, Richard, glad you enjoyed them. Yes, I think "Kitchen Flowers" had some nice composition, and I liked the play of light on the vase. And "Music" just has so much vitality, doesn't it!

  3. I am impressed and inspired. Wonderful artwork. I love those vivid colors, and all the animals and people convey deep emotions. It is hard to choose a favorite because each painting has its own charm and power.
    Thank you for sharing them.

  4. Hi, Julia, I felt the same way. Each one has something special that I like about it. And the kids do invest a lot of feeling in their art. They did "artist statements" to go with their pieces, and so many of them talked about how peaceful and happy doing art makes them.

  5. Great stuff! I particularly like The Woodpecker and Mother Nature's Toddler, but I think they are all great. Congratulations.

  6. Thanks for stopping by, Rosi. Yes, "The Woodpecker" was the only soft pastel entry, and I have a soft spot for soft pastel. (Oops, no pun intended.) And Julia's "Mother Nature's Toddler" shows such advanced technique in watercolor. She's been in my class for 4 years, and she takes an acrylic class at school, and she has won ribbons at the Sacramento State Fair. She actually plans to have an artistic career.

  8. Beautiful artwork. Yes, art is subjective. All such displays of talent! "Music" spoke to me, and I'm not sure why. I think maybe because it's so unexpected! I really like "Bluebird and Poppies", also. I'm sure it's the subject. I have birds and birdhouses in my livingroom, and I have flowers everywhere outside. :-) Great post :-)

  9. Hi, Teresa,
"Music grabbed a lot of responders (I've gotten some responses by email.) I think because it's so lively. And I liked "Bluebird and Poppies", too. Watercolors are sometimes difficult, and I thought she handled the medium well.

  10. I enjoyed seeing the paintings, Elizabeth, and seeing some of the talented students you spend time with. I like them each for different reasons. I won't say which are my favorites because it would be unfair to the artists. They're all very talented. I like the range of subjects and styles as well.

  11. Hi, Gary, thanks for stopping by. Yes, one of the things I liked about this year's show was the range of subjects and styles. There really was a lot of variety, and it was all good. It was a joy to teach them.

  12. I think I'm partial to "Mother Nature's Toddler", "The Woodpecker" and "A Christmas Present". They all did an excellent job though. It's good to see creativity blossom in the younger generation.

  13. Hi, Jeff, yes, in "Mother Nature's Toddler" and "The Christmas Present," I thought the artists handled the watercolors well. It's often hard to work with watercolors. And I've always been partial to soft pastels, so I enjoyed how Bethany handled them in "The Woodpecker".
